Re-Elect Judy for Mayor of
Frontenac Islands
Dear Islanders
My name is Judy Greenwood-Speers
In good times and in bad, we are Islanders, waiting for boats, while raising our families, supporting our community while working the land or in town, or retired. I grew up on Wolfe Island and the foundation of community strength and resilience were instilled in me early. As my parents would say, on the Island, you are expected to stand on your own, but you never have to stand alone. The feeling of being part of a collective community, who are ready to help you through the tough times and expect that you will pull your weight in building the community is something that I stand by.
Together we have endured high water, low water, flooded roads and docks and some have had their homes, land and lively hoods impacted with little assistance and too often roadblocks from Ministries of our governments, but we should not have to spend all of our time fighting our own government. We need a local municipal council that consults with residents on the important issues and has transparent processes to represent them to all levels of government.
I will bring professional and executive skills to bring about results that Islanders need to help them to live productively and safely on the Islands. Each island has its unique set of challenges from frequent ferry maintenance and reduced lanes on Howe Island, to frequently irregular service and incomplete docks for the new ferry at Wolfe and Kingston. The Paramedic and Ferry challenges for Wolfe Island have been partially addressed by the new Ad Hoc committee that has worked as volunteers to research and propose solutions to 6 Ministries. In addition roads have been improved however Short Term Rentals remain an ongoing concern, in need of a good bylaw. I have listened to you and have brought my A game to the table. The recently announced Court decision on the Communications By-law has set the precedent of the important role the mayor has of being the Head of Council and CEO of the Township, this role is distinct from other members of council and the CAO in the responsibilities to the community. My skills have been honed through years in healthcare as an executive and RN, as well as a Retired Certified Human Resource Leader and with my MBA with focus on Management and Organizational Behavior and Marketing. Identifying issues and working to find solutions with others to produce verifiable results, is what I have done in my work life to date and I look forward to working collaboratively to find solutions to the challenges affecting all Islanders.
I believe together we are stronger.
Judy
